Maybe its too late to ask the question, maybe not for some readers. You have been overwhelmed with ads and urgings for several weeks but just let me ask you one more time: Whose birthday is it anyway? Is it the birthday of capitalism? Is it the birthday of “special sales” or “big discounts”? Advertising certainly hasn’t mentioned anything about the One to be honored.
I want to see a big ad that says: “This Holiday Season is brought to you by Jesus”. Amazing how we plagiarize someone else’s idea and don’t even give him credit. God loves us. God is love. God gave His son Jesus to the world. Christmas is His work!
Excuse me, but don’t you think we should give credit where credit is due? Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without Christ! (Visit Japan if you want to see this.) If we simply remember this truth daily, what a grand month and day it would be. Weeks of correct anticipation can make the birthday party on December 25 even greater.
You could yet memorize John 1:14 (NIV), “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” Add to this Luke 2:6-7 (NIV), “While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and place him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”
What present will you give to Jesus at His birthday party? Don’t spend all of your money today until you decide. Call your Pastor and ask him for a suggestion.
David said, “You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit.” (Psalm 51:16-17)
A broken spirit will remember that it is Jesus’ birthday!
“Granted, Father, it is going to take some doing for us to do the right thing
and give your Son a meaningful gift tomorrow. Inspired, we can do it! Amen”
