July 26: PREVENTIVE MEDICINE

I believe in preventive medicine. I try to play tennis, walk with Fay, watch my veggie diet, exercise and all of the things my doctors say will keep me healthy. I also believe that the “preventive medicine” concept is the best way to teach children. When parents and grandparents want the children to learn the truth, they must verbalize it and live it effectively daily.
Kids are great imitators of good as well as bad. The best way to help your child not to use drugs or alcohol is to model the biblical teaching, “don’t you know that your body is the temple of God and the Holy Spirit living in you?” (1 Corinthians 6:19) The best anti-abortion demonstration you will ever attend will be in your own living room as these truths are taught to your children.
Regretfully, many parents don’t start on a preventive medicine program until the child is already sick. You teach your children how to live honestly and not cheat in school by modeling “do not deceive one another.” (Leviticus 19:11)
Often parents punish their children severely and put them on extreme restrictions because they have caught them doing wrong. I believe wrong-doing should be punished, but parents must always model the right and good. Remember the line, “what you are is shouting so loud, I can’t hear a word that you are saying” ?
“Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it” is the biblical injunction from Proverbs 22:6. There are days of pressure, temptation, and crisis coming in each of our lives. Now is the time to prepare to handle them, not when it happens. Help your children today to spiritually and emotionally prepare for whatever life brings to them.

“Heavenly Father, as earthly fathers and mothers we have the awesome job
of raising your creations to always be sensitive to You. Help us! Amen”
